Defence Construction Contracts
Occasionally I’m asked by a business if we can help them to win Defence infrastructure and construction contracts. The short answer is no. Finding, winning, and fulfilling Defence contracts like these is almost a whole new world of procurement on its own!
While their does exist some comparable similarities with ‘non-Defence’ Government opportunities, pure Defence opportunities for SMEs can be really challenging to navigate and are often more complex to win. They require some different skill sets not necessarily needed when winning standard Government business.
But to those in the know, Defence supply is a massive pool of opportunities to swim in - $3.2 billion annually! A small Defence infrastructure contract can be as low as $500,000, with most contracts awarded currently valued at between $1.5m - $4m. Even a ‘small’ contract can prove a watershed opportunity for a small business. The flow-on effect of winning a Defence contract can be life-changing for a small business - if the works can be delivered to a high level, Defence will often return to the quality suppliers they trust for future needs.
If you’re an SME who:
Has tried and failed at winning a Defence infrastructure or construction contract, or
Is considering diversifying into Defence infrastructure and construction opportunities
Then I’d suggest you speak to the team at BOUW. BOUW is a Queensland business with their finger squarely on the pulse of helping SMEs to find and win Defence contracts. They exist to help other businesses to understand Defence buyer behaviour, Defence procurement channels and networks, and winning Defence contracts.
BOUW is led by Ben Seesink whose track record in Defence contracts speaks for itself. He’s also been on the other side of the fence as a serving member of our Australian Defence Force.
