Get Paid on Time
Countless business owners and operators choose not to target Government opportunities, and one of ‘the Big Four’ reasons is their belief that Government are far too slow to pay their bills - this impacts cash flow and can put enormous stress on already struggling small businesses.
Happily, Qld Government has implemented a policy aimed at ensuring its small business suppliers are paid much sooner than ever before. The Queensland Government’s On-Time Payment Policy mandates that small business payments are paid no more than 20 calendar days from when they were received.
Who is eligible for this? It’s pretty simple which is great: if you have less than 20 employees then you’re in.
You’ll also find a section on most formal Government requests for quotes, contracts, etc, asking if your business is registered for the On-Time Payment Small Business register. If you can tick that box then you’re assured that any invoice submitted relating to that work will be paid within 20 days.
Not enough small businesses are aware of this, so spread the word. Also, don’t be put off believing that it’ll take hours of work and volumes of supporting documentation to register for this - it takes 5 to 10 minutes max, and you only need basic information about your business. You can register here.
