Readiness & Growth Program for Membership Organisations

A Practical Program for Your Members

Many small and medium businesses want to pursue government, Tier 1 and major project opportunities, but are not yet sure how to approach the market or what needs to be in place before they do.

The Gov Ready Readiness and Growth Program gives chambers of commerce, industry associations and other membership organisations a practical way to help their members build that capability.

It is designed for dedicated cohorts of businesses from your organisation or network.

The program combines structured online learning and implementation activities with three live cohort sessions facilitated by Gov Ready founder Thomas Pollock.

It is not intended to be a large-scale supplier capability program. Instead, it provides a practical and accessible option for organisations that want to give a group of members meaningful support in becoming more procurement-ready and better able to identify and pursue relevant opportunities.

What the Program Covers

The program focuses on two broad areas.

Getting procurement-ready

Participating businesses work through the areas that affect how ready they are to supply government, Tier 1 contractors and major projects.

This includes capability and positioning, policies, evidence, systems, supporting material and how the business presents itself to prospective buyers.

The aim is to help each business identify the gaps that matter and start addressing them.

Finding and engaging the right buyers

Participants also look at where their genuine opportunities may exist across government, Tier 1 contractors and major projects.

They work through how to identify relevant buyers, understand how those organisations purchase, and develop a more deliberate approach to becoming visible and building relationships before an opportunity appears.

Designed for a Dedicated Cohort

The program is delivered to a group of businesses from your organisation or network.

Participants move through the material at the same time, attend the live sessions together and have access to a private online cohort community.

This gives businesses the opportunity to learn alongside others facing similar challenges, share experiences and maintain some momentum between sessions.

It also means the live sessions can reflect the context of the cohort, including the types of businesses involved, the markets they are pursuing and the issues they are encountering.

More Than an Online Course

The program includes online content, workbooks, tools and practical activities, but it is built around implementation rather than simply consuming information.

Thomas facilitates three live cohort sessions covering the material, how it applies to participating businesses, the progress they are making and what they need to work on next.

Participants are expected to take action between sessions.

That accountability is an important part of the program. The objective is not simply for businesses to understand procurement better, but to make practical improvements in their own business as they move through the program.

What Participants Receive

Each participating business receives:

  • Three live cohort sessions with Thomas Pollock, covering the program material, how it applies to their business, progress and next steps.

  • Practical program resources, including online content, tools, workbooks and implementation activities.

  • A private online cohort community for participating businesses to ask questions, share experiences and stay connected between sessions.

  • Structured accountability, with participants identifying actions and revisiting their progress throughout the program.

  • Ongoing access to program resources, allowing businesses to continue using the material after the facilitated component has finished.

What Businesses Will Work On

Depending on the business, this may include:

  • improving how they present their capability

  • identifying gaps in policies, systems or evidence

  • strengthening case studies and supporting material

  • identifying relevant government agencies, Tier 1 contractors and major projects

  • understanding where they may fit within government and major project supply chains

  • improving their website or capability statement

  • developing a more deliberate approach to buyer and contractor engagement

  • deciding what to prioritise now and what can wait

The program is designed so participants finish with more than a better understanding of procurement.

The aim is for them to have made tangible progress in their own business and to be better positioned to pursue the opportunities that make sense for them.

Who the Program is For

The Readiness and Growth Program is suited to organisations that support SMEs and want to help their members become more capable and confident in pursuing government and major project work.

It may be a good fit for:

  • chambers of commerce

  • industry associations

  • business networks

  • regional economic development organisations

  • sector or trade groups

  • organisations supporting a specific group of SMEs or suppliers

It is particularly useful where a full-scale supplier capability or procurement development program would be more than is required, but a webinar or one-off workshop would not provide enough depth or follow-through.

A Practical Middle Ground

Some organisations need a comprehensive supplier development program with detailed diagnostics, individual advisory support and extensive market engagement.

Others simply want to give their members a more structured and useful pathway than a single workshop or webinar.

The Readiness and Growth Program sits between those two options.

Gov Ready provides the program structure, resources, facilitation and accountability. Participating businesses do the implementation work within their own organisations.

That makes it possible to support a meaningful cohort of businesses without the cost or complexity of commissioning a fully bespoke capability program.
